Ruapehu, Tongariro, Ngāuruhoe and Hauhungatahi or Paretītī, are an inspirational backdrop to our learning, creating awe & inspiring connections to our whenua and place inspiring our school community to create something special. Whānau each have a hapū they become part of when they join Waimarino – National Park School and along with a feeling of belonging, there is also our team competition to work towards each year.
We affectionately like to call our great little kura ‘NZ’s Top School’. This is because National Park Village is the highest urban township in New Zealand at 825 metres. Even though our claim is based on altitude, we strive every day to give it our best – hoatu ngā pai.
Although the school has a stable roll of 40-60 children. We grow every winter with families visiting the area to take part in our snow programmes on Mount Ruapehu. The Ruapehu area has a strong summer and winter tourist economy and is expected to develop further over the next few years. Living and learning here is what you make it – it’s fun and an
adventure in itself.
